Big congrats to Melissa P. this week, who was the first person to break five figures. That happened incredibly quickly and she deserves recognition for all that hard work.
Otherwise, not much to update here. People are reading fantastically, Portland was an amazing trip for my birthday. Beer is really awesome. I’m hard at work on starting a specialty beer store and that’s where all my focus is going right now. Some day I may finish more than a chapter a night.
Lastly, I’m trying to find ways of making it so that I at least break even on costs to this site. I’d rather not do anything to add ads to here, as I like them just as much as most of you. Therefore, my first thought is to provide an amazon referral link. That way, only if you’re inclined, you can click on that before purchasing anything on Amazon. It’s entirely up to you, doesn’t cost you anything, and you get what you were planning on ordering anyway. Otherwise, I’ll throw up products I actually think are awesome every now and then and you can click through if you so choose.
I want to be transparent on this, after all.
Use it if you wish, don’t if you wish. Otherwise, enjoy reading and get more people involved!
EDIT: Someone in the comments suggested I throw up a paypal link, as well. For this interested, my paypal is aedeos@gmail.com. Thanks if you choose to go that route, it means a heck of a lot.

I have to say, it’s impressive to see Melissa’s list. How she managed to read 1600 pages in 2 days is astounding. Congrats, and good job to everyone doing this!
I didn’t get much sleep? Hahaha. Actually I just came off the middle-book slump in the Wheel of Time series and the last two books were so much better I had to keep reading to find out what happened.
Also, I’m not working right now so I could afford to stay up all weekend reading and then sleep through my book hangover today. But I’m off to buy the last book right now so I might not sleep tonight at all either.
I’m very impressed. I’m also unemployed at the moment (due to start work soon), but I haven’t been able to read quite as much. How did you find the books? What about the last one? Wheel of Time is one series I wanted to read a while ago, but now, with 800 books and counting on my Goodreads to-read list, I think WoT will have to wait.
I loved the series! For me 1-7 were amazing, 8-11 were a touch slow, and 12-14 were just incredible. I know from what I read online that some people had a problem with the transition from Robert Jordan to Brandon Sanderson, but if anything I was probably the opposite. Maybe it was because I was already a fan of Sanderson, but I think I enjoyed his books more. That could also be because 8-11 were slow and 12 just picks things up and runs with it. I could not stop reading.
The last book was just about everything I could have asked for. Without spoiling anything about A Memory of Light, I like to have everything spelled out for me in a book. When I become invested in characters enough to read 14 books featuring them I want to know every single facet of how their lives turn out, lol. Obviously that isn’t possible, but that is really the only thing that was lacking for me. I wanted more information!!
Toss up an amazon[.]ca link as well.
Sadly, that doesn’t seem possible for me to do with the affiliate program. At least, not that I can see. Bummer.
Just a heads up, Jay Mohr uses the amazon link as revenue on his podacst and he was told by someone to tell his listeners to clear their cookies each time they use it. You might want to look in it and add that instruction next tot he link.
Do you use Paypal? You should put up a donation link. I think it is awesome that you do this, and I know it takes a lot of your time and energy. I’d be happy to throw a few $$ your way and I’m sure some of the other 52 in 52 participants would as well!
I absolutely can. Great idea.
Quick question. Do only novels count? what about non fiction and academic writings?
The goal of this (for me) isn’t the outcome–it’s the reading. If you’re reading academic, be it for pleasure or profit, by all means, log it. I want to come out of this with people proud of the pages they turned over the year, instilling others to do the same. Whether it’s Sendak, Baudrillard, or Crichton, just read and find ways to enjoy it and pass it on to people.
